Spirit of Christmas

So many things represent Christmas,
most of all, celebrating Christ’s birth,
but thru’ a child’s eyes at this season,
it’s fantasy for all it is worth…

*********

Even Santa personifies Christmas—
a man so jolly and giving,
Heaven-sent to bring joy to children,
great memories to everyone living.

Yes, I know Santa’s only a symbol,
but one that seems holy to me,
for all Santa does—in the spirit
is loving, and kind as can be.

*********

Lights that glow on each household,
on business’, churches, and trees,
remind us of His wondrous coming—
a savior to set us all free.

A light from above made believers
of the Magi who traveled afar
to see the promise of a king being born,
underneath that glorious star.

***********

Trees so lovely, decorated in style
with garland and colorful balls—
lights glowing bright with a star tip-top,
standing stately in each entry hall.

The odor of pine bows fill every room
as revelers make merry loudly.
Christians tell of the Christ-child—
the Lord’s birthday we celebrate proudly.

***********

Gifts we buy for our loved-ones,
have become overdone, I agree,
but they speak of the message Christ gave us
to be willing to share with much glee.

Tho’ stacked sometimes to the ceiling,
the meaning in gifts is the same—
to give to each other with gladness
as the Wisemen did when they came.

************

An’ lest we forget our traditions,
at this time, the specialties shared.
We all tend to yearn for those grand feasts—
annually being prepared.

There are yams, and breaded tomatoes,
potatoes with gravy, and ham,
candies, cookies, and hot apple pie,
buttered biscuits with blackberry jam.

*************

Snow that falls in great, gusty swirls
outside frosty panes where we gaze,
but we’re cozy and warm by the fireplace
in a comfy Christmastime haze.

The scene is now set in the likeness
of a Currier and Ives Christmas card—
as we separate now from family and friends,
we know parting will surely be hard.

*************

We return to our homes in the country,
happy we had a great stay,
knowing we’ll gather next Christmas
to celebrate our “Lord’s birthday”.
